ABOUT

New Zealand multi-instrumentalist Eddie Giffney studied with Rae de Lisle and Ashley Wass, and received his Masters of Music with Distinction, majoring in Performance Piano from the Royal College of Music

He has achieved considerable success on three instruments: piano, accordion and harpsichord. Recent highlights include concerto performances with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra, St. Matthews Chamber Orchestra and Bach Musica, a recital for the London Chamber Music Society at King’s Place, and recitals at St James’s Piccadilly and Princess Alexandra Hall. In 2016, he won the Mitchell Prize after four rounds of the Royal Overseas League Competition, and reached the semi-finals of the Jean Francaix International Piano Competition. He also gained 12th place in the Accordion World Championship in Shanghai, and has twice been the South Pacific and NZ Open champion on the classical accordion.

Eddie enjoys performing works by living New Zealand composers as part of his concert practice, and has recorded for composers Jack Body, Leonie Holmes, and John Elmsly.

Alongside his private piano teaching practise, for six years he was a tutor with Sistema Aotearoa in South Auckland and enjoys working with a section of the community who may not otherwise be exposed to classical music.

Currently based in London, Eddie regularly performs on all three instruments. He also teaches privately at Jacques Samuel Piano Studio and at an independent primary school in North London.
